		I have found that firefighters seem to attach a lot of sentimental value to these axes and helmets partly because they are very familiar with the equipment. Some have their personal helmet painted, or an axe from the department they have been at for years. Often for a retirement gift the firefighters wife, family or fellow firefighters choose a helmet and photos that have special meaning for the firefighter. I use photos to create a firescene on the piece. If you don't have a specific piece you want painted, I keep a stock of retired helmets and axes (as well as a personal photo collection) on hand. I can also provide an engraved dedication plaque for the helmets. On the axes I like to make a dedication on the handle. Each piece, whether an axe, helmet or drawing/painting is original artwork.
